In 2021, Niklas Timper, then 22 years old, found himself in an empty shop in Würzburg, freshly moved from Augsburg. He placed a bet on himself: to open a shisha shop that wouldn't sell everything, but only what was truly good. Five years later, that bet has become Smokez – and the shop at Kaiserstraße 18 is the first stop for many in the region when it comes to shisha, tobacco, and honest advice.
From a Leap of Faith to a Specialist Retailer
The start coincided with a period that could hardly have been tougher for retail. A pandemic, closed city centers, then in 2022, the tobacco tax reform that made shisha tobacco significantly more expensive overnight, and the stricter Tobacco Products Act with ever new regulations for packaging and sales. Anyone who built and maintained a tobacco shop during these years got to know the industry from its uncomfortable side – and that still shapes how we work today.
During this time, we learned what truly matters: it's not the biggest shelf that wins, but the one customers trust. From this approach, over five years, a range of over 50 brands and more than 500 varieties has grown – curated, not haphazardly put together.
Shisha World Würzburg Becomes Smokez
In 2026, for our fifth anniversary, we changed the name from "Shisha World Würzburg" to Smokez. This step was more than just a new logo: it represents what the shop has become over the years – a modern specialist retailer with regional roots and nationwide shipping, offering online advice just as thoroughly as at the counter.
What has remained the same: the person behind the counter, our approach to the product range, and the commitment that every recommendation is honest.
What We Stand For
- Curated selection instead of "everything goes." We don't list every brand just because it exists. What's on our shelves is something we've personally smoked or observed in sales over the years. We only follow new trends once they genuinely convince us in terms of taste.
- Genuine advice. Most of our recommendations come from conversations, not marketing. Whether it's a beginner with their first shisha or an connoisseur looking for a special dark blend – we ask about their setup, taste, and experience before recommending anything.

Niklas Timper, born in 1999, is the owner and face of Smokez. He founded the shop in 2021 at the age of 22 and led it through five of the toughest years for the tobacco retail trade – from the pandemic to the tobacco tax reform and the inner-city crisis.
