Information on the disposal of batteries and electrical appliances

Protecting our environment is important to us. In accordance with the legal requirements of the Battery Act (BattG) and the Electrical and Electronic Equipment Act (ElektroG), old batteries as well as electrical and electronic equipment must be disposed of separately from household waste.

Return of old batteries

As an end user, you are legally obliged to return used batteries. Disposal via household waste is not permitted.

Old batteries can be handed in free of charge at the municipal collection points in your city or municipality. Information on locations and opening hours can be obtained from your responsible municipality.

Labelling of hazardous batteries

Batteries containing harmful substances are marked with the symbol of a crossed-out wheeled bin. This symbol means that batteries must not be disposed of with household waste.

In addition, the following chemical abbreviations may be indicated:

• Pb = battery contains more than 0.004 mass percent lead
• Cd = battery contains more than 0.002 mass percent cadmium
• Hg = battery contains more than 0.0005 mass percent mercury

Disposal of old electrical appliances

Electrical and electronic equipment must also not be disposed of with household waste. They must be sent to a separate collection.

Free return is possible at municipal collection points. Please remove any batteries or rechargeable batteries contained in the device before handing it in, if possible, and dispose of them separately.
